Archaeological Search & Recovery

Our divers, captains, and surface support personnel have performed services on archaeological sites around the world.

Documented Archaeological Search

We conduct searches for archaeological sites of interest within predetermined coordinates, execute detailed site surveys, and map debris fields.  We are able to provide ROV services to confirm details of the site survey and to perform initial sea floor exploration.

Our commercial diving expertise enables us to further explore, map, and document the site, and in doing so we adhere to all recognized archaeological standards.

Archaeological Recovery

Where the decision has been made to recover artifacts for preservation and further study, we will ensure that such artifacts are safely delivered to the surface.

Substructure will work hand-in-hand with archaeologists and expedition leaders to formulate a sound plan for surveying, mapping, and exploring an archaeological site, and we will coordinate efforts to accurately document and recover artifacts as requested.

Substructure strongly encourages responsible cultural resource stewardship.

Archaeological Expeditions

Substructure has been involved in archaeological expeditions in Connecticut, Florida, Virginia, Vermont, Honduras, the Irish Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, and Peru.
