Multibeam and Backscatter Surveys for Disposal Site Assessment

Substructure conducted a full-bottom multibeam survey during fall of 2009 over a dredged-material placement site – the Central Long Island Sound Disposal Site (CLDS) – to update the bathymetry over the areas of the site that had received dredged material since the previous monitoring survey, conducted four years earlier. In addition to the bathymetric data, Substructure also acquired full multibeam backscatter and snippet data, as well as raw POSMV data files.

Final data deliverables included gridded bathymetric products based on averaging all soundings within a half-meter square grid across the entire survey area, backscatter mosaics based on beam average amplitude and the full snippet time series data across the survey area, and geo-referenced image files of the bathymetry and backscatter products that were used to help develop and conduct follow-on sediment-profile imaging operations at the site.
