Research

Substructure regularly deploys its state-of-the-art hydrographic vessel Orion to aid teaching and research at both universities and training institutions.

The precise, reliable, and repeatable data Orion acquires makes the vessel a perfect platform for beta testing or for comparative analysis when researching new hydrographic, SONAR, and mapping technologies. Orion also proves to be a stable and predictable platform from which new hydrographers can easily learn and perfect basic through advanced surveying techniques. In addition, Substructure staff uses their expertise in integration to assist instruction, notably in multibeam SONAR classes.

Substructure has been a corporate partner with the University of New Hampshire Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping since 2008. Survey vessel Orion is also regularly used in for-profit training courses throughout New England and New York.
