The newest addition to Substructure’s survey fleet is Mintaka, a 33’ aluminum vessel custom designed for use in long-duration, near shore hydrographic surveys.
Mintaka, named after a star in the Orion constellation, is capable of satisfying the International Hydrographic Organization's (IHO) Special Order standard while providing comfortable accommodations and generous working areas for the survey crew. The vessel is equipped with a high speed diesel, counter-rotating jet drive, an enhanced noise reduction package, and has sufficient fuel capacity for extended duration survey operations.
Like Substructure’s premier survey vessel, Orion, Mintaka is equipped with an extensive array of high-resolution hydrographic survey sensors, including an R2Sonic 2024 dual-head multibeam echosounder and an Applanix POSMV v5 vessel position and orientation system. The dual-head multibeam system provides greater swath coverage and higher data density during routine survey operations and has also been tested and tuned to simultaneously optimize the quality of both the bathymetric and backscatter data.
